Bent (1996)

Bent
by Martin Sherman

Feb. 14th - Mar. 2nd, 1996
Annex Theatre
730 Bathurst St.

One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten.

Take a deep breath and count to ten - it usually helps Max get over his hangover and to clear his head - but this time he can't clear his mind of the nightmare happening around him.

When the play starts, Max doesn't remember bringing home Wolf for some fun and his partner Rudy is not impressed. There's a knock at the door and we expect the upset and unpaid landlord - but instead, two Nazi guards come in and kill Wolf and we are launched into the Berlin of 1934. A Berlin unfriendly toward Jews, Gypsies, Socialists and Homosexuals.

And at the center is a man who will do anything to survive. But when does the price become too high? Bent is a beautiful story of acceptance and love in a world full of hatred - then or now.
