Although most corporations are structured on traditionally hierarchical formulas, there is a genuine alternative in Canada. Co-operatives are democratically governed and the members are the owners. Usually one associates Co-ops with Agricultural or Housing Co-ops, however, the Co-operative model can be used for any product or service provided the members are dedicated to values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity, and solidarity.
